Avani Bedagkar is a recent graduate of Irvington High School. Currently, she attends Ohlone College where her goal is to transfer from there in two years time to UC Davis on a Biochem major.
Avani has always been fascinated by astronomy and all the secrets it seems to hold. She had the opportunity to apply this fascination in real life during her senior year in high school when she had to do a year-long benchmark project called QUEST. For this project, she wanted to find out if introducing children to astronomy at an early age would get them more interested in math and science. Through this project she was introduced to many amazing people who in turn introduced her to the many incredible aspects of Astronomy. Avani started the after school astronomy club at Hirsch Elementary school where she was able to lead children in activities, such as assembling telescopes. Avani plans to continue her work with Hirsch and hopes to extend an interest in astronomy to other local lementary schools.
