In 1962, when Barbara Sande was in the second grade, she became a "space fan" after the flight of John Glenn. In 1971, she was able to see an Apollo launch, adding to her resolve to become an engineer and work in the space program. In 1981, shortly after graduating from the University of Colorado as an Electrical Engineer, Barbara went to work for Lockheed Martin (then Martin Marietta) on the Titan launch vehicle program. She stayed on that program for 25 years (until it ended in 2005) in Engineering and Mission Success roles and am now working on understanding satellite anomalies. Barbara loves to present to groups, especially stories about space exploration. Barbara hopes to inspire younger people to consider careers in space science and engineering, while bringing stories of wonder to other audiences who may not know the good news.
