BJ Harper has been active in the Solar System Ambassadors program since 2001. Recently, she retired after more than 20 years as director of the Fort Wayne Community Schools Planetarium. BJ has been a Lilly Fellow (from Eli Lilly Endowment, vice president and program director of the Fort Wayne Astronomical Society and on the steering committee for the Northern Indiana Astronomical Group's April regional gathering. She has been a presenter at both the NSTA and the Indiana and Michigan Earth Science Groups.
In 2002, BJ received the Radio Shack Teacher of the Year Award for using technology in the science classroom. She received two grants from American Electric Power Co. for use of building the 16 ft. radio telescope at Northrop High School. The Great Lakes Planetarium Association awarded her a PLATO grant to build a radio telescope. This radio dish should see first light by December 1, 2006. Even though she recently retired, BJ remains active in astronomy and science education.
