Bo Lowrey has over 30 years of activity in the amateur astronomy community, ranging from early interest in the Amateur Satellite Program (AMSAT) in the 1970's when he was the area coordinator for Kentucky, to his most recent community involvement as the Sidewalk Astronomy Chair for the Louisville Astronomical Society. His present occupation is as the Director of Telecommunications for Jefferson County Public Schools, one of the larger K-12 school districts in the US.
He is a frequent contributor to local after school astronomy clubs, and has spoken at several educational and scientific conferences to demonstrate the support of STEM provided by the informal educational opportunities afforded by amateur astronomy, and the uses of technology in the support of STEM initiatives.
He is also active as a volunteer at the University of Louisville Rauch Planetarium and the Louisville Nature Center where he frequently assists with sidewalk astronomy events and with their quarterly Telescope Workshops.
