I have been interested in astronomy all my life. My family camped at almost every National Park over the western half of the US each summer. While camping, I loved lying awake and looking up at the night sky. I purchased my first telescope in 1988 and never looked down again. In 1989, I took an astronomy class at Moorpark College and joined the Ventura County Astronomical Society. At that time, I started doing simple astrophotography using a star tracker I made as an extra astronomy lab project. It was so exciting getting my first photos back. After viewing and photographing the 1991 solar eclipse in Cabo San Lucas, I took a 9 year break from astronomy to expandmy family. In 2000, I rejoined the land of the living, and am actively picking up where I left off. I took a workshop at JPL this last summer on the Mars Exploration Rover (MER) Robotics Program. I will be running the MER program in my childrensschool this year. I also assist the teachers with researching and implementing astronomy projects and activities. After 6 months of hard work, I became a Telescopes In Education (TIE) volunteer technical operator on the 24 inch telescope at Mt. Wilson. Through TIE, I bring the excitement of astronomy to students around the world as they remotely operate the 24 inch telescope I already feel like an ambassador for astronomy and the US. Being a JPL Solar System Ambassador is just the icing on the cake!!
