Dana Kasian currently works on several research projects for the Center for Excellence in Early Childhood at the University of Florida. She was a special education teacher for nine years, during which time she focused on involving childrens' families in the classroom and in their education. She won many accolades for her work, including an Inspirational Coach Award and Best New Coach Award from Special Olympics, Kiwanis of Orange County Teacher of the Month, publication in Marquis Who's Who of American Women in 2006 and 2010 and more. Her interest in space science began as a child, as she idolized Sally Ride as a little girl. She started a Young Astronauts and rocket-building club in elementary school and her interest continued throughout her education. While teaching, she attended Space Florida's Teacher Academy and got to work next to KSC's rocket garden. She built a GPS device which was successfully launched in a weather balloon from the KSC site, which she still sees as one of her most exciting accomplishments! She took part in the Seeds in Space program and planted seeds harvested from the space station with her class for their science fair project. She looks forward to sharing her passion for space science with the Gainesville community!
