I
became interested in astronomy while in the second grade.
Within a few years, I read everything about astronomy
that was available at the nearest three public libraries.
In the third grade, I received a 2.5 inch refractor
telescope which I used to follow (at least I tried too!)
Apollo 8 and Apollo 11 to the moon. As a teenager, I
remember calling the big city newspaper to see if I
could get a copy of the Viking image that was published
on the front page. Upon being told by the editor that
the photo had been thrown away, I convinced him to search
his waste basket to retrieve it. That evening, my family
drove me eight miles to pick it up. I now enjoy sharing
the planets, the Moon, and the Sun with others.
