Deborah Martorell studied communications and journalism at University of Puerto Rico before beginning her career began as an assistant producer for a major Spanish-language television station. In 1992 she became a reporter and producer for a station in Puerto Rico in 1994. Her career as a weather reporter began in 1997 when she covered hurricane Georges and tropical Storm Jeanne. Deborah then began her Meteorology studies, completing her degree in 2007 from Mississippi State University. She is certified by the American Meteorological Society. In 2007, Deborah was nominated for an Emmy for her special series. In 2009, the Overseas Press Club gave her an award for best Technology Reporting for the Discovery STS-119 mission. They also gave her an award for best human interest series. In addition to her television reporting, Deborah also can be heard on local radio as well as writing a meteorology column for daily newspaper. She also writes science articles the television station's website. Deborah is married with two daughters.
