Deborah Martorell studied communications and journalism at University of Puerto Rico before beginning her career began as an assistant producer for Telenoticias at Telemundo. In 1992 she became a reporter and producer for WKAQ-AM, before becoming a TV reporter for Noticentro 4 for WAPA-TV in 1994. Her career as a weather reporter for Noticentro began in 1997 when she covered hurricane Georges and tropical Storm Jeanne. Deborah then began her Meteorology studies, completing her degree in 2007 from Mississippi State University. She is certified by the American Meteorological Society. In 2007, Deborah was nominated for an Emmy for her special series "Heat Island." In 2009, the Overseas Press Club gave her an award for best Technology Reporting for the Discovery STS-119 mission. They also gave her an award for best human interest series for "Zero Gravity." Currently Deborah is the senior meteorolgist at WAPA-TV, reporter meteorologist for Notiuno 630 AM radio station and meteorologist columnist for daily newspaper Primera Hora. She also writes science articles for the station web site www.wapa.tv. Deborah is married with two daughters.
