In Gary Carter's professional career, he has spent more than 30 years leading teams that develop and implement business processes and engineering applications supporting the design, verification, and manufacture of telecommunications products.
Gary's love of science and astronomy reaches as far back as he can remember. From elementary school onward, he absorbed as much as he could from books and watched every step of the Gemini and Apollo programs. His first telescope came Christmas morning in the late ‘60s. Gary's father helped set it up in the front yard that night and together they located their first visual target -- Saturn. The night sky has beckoned to him ever since. Recreating this experience for others and hearing their reactions takes him back to that moment in his youth.
Gary is president of his local amateur astronomy club where he organizes and supports club meetings and activities. He occasionally makes it up to the club's dark site for observing events, and regularly supports the public outreach efforts. He also volunteers at the annual Texas star party and supports outreach activities at local venues. Gary enjoys learning new things about the science of astronomy and sharing this experience with others in his community.
