A TV. A Sunday at home with the family. Sitting around watching a scratchy footage of a man in a balloon suit. The image fading in and out. My father saying, "Watch this son, you are seeing history." Then the garbles words" That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind." This was my first introduction to space. I watched Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin dance across the mountains on the moon. I was a child of six and I knew space was calling to me. My answer came on a dark March evening. One of the scout leaders was looking skyward and saying some funny names. He pointed up and said look. I saw many stars... then he handed me a pair of binoculars and I saw thousands of them. The stars called and I answered. I am still answering to this day, but now I have others answering as well. I am now an educator with LAUSD at Mt. Gleason teaching students in Physical Science at the 8th grade level. Among the regular curriculum I also incorporate lessons from the Astronomical Society of the Pacific's "Universe at your fingertips". With my newly formed astronomy classes at school more and more students are touching the future. With my newly formed company, astrokids, my own design to bring astronomy down to earth knowledge has touched children, parents and teachers of the community. I want to share my calling of the stars with as many others as I can, so that one day we may all reach Ad astra... to the stars.
