Born
and raised in San Francisco I was fascinated by the
Mercury and Apollo space programs and had dreams of
becoming the first female astronaut. Instead I worked
for the Dept. of Defense until I married in 1981 to
my soul-mate, Rick. After six years in Germany, we came
back to the US and I completed my BA at the Univ. of
Maryland. Rick's job transferred us to Las Vegas, NV
where he works for Lockheed/Martin.
I
also love musical theater and acting so during my 20's
in San Francisco I worked in several motion pictures
and TV shows for many years; hence, I was eligible to
join the Screen Actor's Guild (SAG). SAG promotes its
own literacy program called BookPals which allows me
the thrill of reading to school children from grades
one through three.
But
the astronomy bug has never left me. To inspire,
excite, and educate children (and adults) to the wonders
of the universe is my goal. In addition to BookPals,
I give astronomy presentations at many of my local libraries,
schools, and occasionally at nearby Red Rock State Park
Visitor Center in the evenings so the children (and
their parents) can look through my Meade Schmidt-Cassagrain
12" telescope and many others. I am also a member
of the National Space Society, the Planetary Society,
the Las Vegas Astronomical Society, and the Astronomical
Society of the Pacific.
