When Jon Zander was ten years old he got his first look through a large reflector telescope, which had been set up by a family friend to view Saturn. With Jon's first look through the eyepiece, he was hooked on astronomy. Since that time Jon has been keenly interested in some of the major missions NASA and JPL have done since the 1970's.
Jon also has developed an interest in Cosmology, but with an anthropological twist. Besides observing with his own telescopes, Jon is fascinated most about how humankind has interpreted space throughout existence by way of ritual, sovereignty, and pure scientific curiosity.
With the SSA program Jon hopes to encourage others to have that same moment of personal discovery that he had looking through that eyepiece years ago.
Currently Jon is raising three daughters and introducing them to the perfect desert night skies with his very forgiving but always supportive wife.
