Joe Guzmán has been an amateur astronomer since early childhood and has always marveled and drawn to the night sky. An avid space exploration supporter, he encourages all aspects of both manned and un-manned exploration missions.
Joe served as a Chicago Police Law Enforcement Explorer Program Instructor for 20 years and 10 years as a elected Community Representative of the Juarez High School Local School Council/ Chicago Board of Education. Always active in public affairs, he has served on numerous community based organizations as Chairman/member of various Board of Directors, including the Legal Assistance Foundation of Chicago, 012th District Police Community Alternative Policing Strategy, and served as a Mayoral appointee to the Community Development Advisory Committee.
Presently Joe proudly serves as a Volunteer Telescope/Observatory Operator at Chicago's Adler Planetarium - greatly enjoying working with the public and sharing astronomy. Also, Founder and Administrator of the "Chicago Astronomer" organization and website ( www.chicagoastronomer.com) , reporting on and highlighting space flight/exploration and amateur astronomy activities - bringing astronomers, space enthusiasts and interested individuals together worldwide.
He is writing presently as an investigative journalist, he reports on conditions and situations in Chicago Public schools city wide, and is a webmaster/IT tech for the Pilsen Chamber of Commerce.
