Joseph Hilbe, Ph.D., is emeritus professor, University of Hawaii, and adjunct professor of statistics, Arizona State University. Hilbe is founder and Chair of both the ISI astrostatistics committee and Network. The committee is the first such committee created under the auspices of a statistical or astronomical organization; the Network is the first global association of astrostatisticians. Their goal is to foster collaboration between statisticians and astrophysicists, and to develop new statistical methods for the evaluation of astronomical data.
Hilbe is an elected Fellow of both the American Statistical Association and Royal Statistical Society, and an "elected member" of International Statistical Institute (ISI), the world association of statisticians. He has authored numerous journal articles and texts on statistical modeling, including the highly regarded books, "Logistic Regression Models" and "Negative Binomial Regression".
Hilbe has a collection of over 100 meteorites, including several lunar and Martian stones, which he brings to his presentations.
