From 1987 through 1990, he studied at Cornell University, completing a Ph.D. in 1990 in the fields of high performance computing and neurobiology. He returned to IBM to begin research on high performance computing architectures. In 1994, he joined a small team at Cornell University responsible for cooperative research in high performance computing. His current interests include parallel and cluster scheduling algorithms, computational neurophysiology, and algorithms for data analysis. He also enjoys spending time with his two children, antique motorcycle restoration, sailing, backyard astronomy, and treehouse construction.
