Leigh S. Arino de la Rubia has been interested in space science since she watched in awe as shuttles launched from Cape Canaveral as a kid. Now, she spends her days preparing for and implementing science programs for kids of all ages. She has taught kids using hands-on activities in several areas, including astronomy, geoscience, robotics, biology, chemistry, and astrobiology. She is very proud to be a science nerd, and can be spotted wearing one of her several silly science t-shirts all around Tennessee State University's campus. She works for the SECME, Inc./TSU SEMAA site as a curriculum and materials coordinator, and loves to present planetarium shows using a portable planetarium to after-school programs and on Saturdays. Leigh is also a Science Teaching Fellow with the Vanderbilt-Meharry-TSU Scientist-in-the-Classroom program, spending at least one day a week in a middle school science classroom.
Mrs. Arino de la Rubia received her Master's degree in Biology from TSU in May 2006, and a Bachelor of Arts from Vanderbilt University in 2001. She is currently working on her doctoral degree in curriculum planning, and wants to design effective, engaging science and math curricula on a budget. She was married on Mole Day to a fellow geek and runs after one little boy on a daily basis.
