Melissa Rivera is currently an undergraduate student in Electrical Engineering at The University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez. She has a strong interest in Communications, Physics and Astronomy and serves as the Vice-President of The Caribbean Astronomical Society of Puerto Rico. Melissa works on research projects at the Arecibo Radio Telescope in Puerto Rico, including a recent one at the Observatory which focused on analyzing data from Jicamarca using a radar system called JULIA. This study analyzed perturbations in the electric field as a result of geomagnetic substorms on equatorial latitudes.
