The quest for knowledge is what makes as human, and therefore it is important that we continue this quest, in space exploration as well as in other sciences. Space Exploration can have tremendous impact on the society, and people have to keep actively engaged in it to secure funding for future projects. Anybody who has ever looked at the stars at night wonders what is out there. Unfortunately, with light pollution, TV and other things going on, our biggest challenge might actually be getting people to look up at the sky again. I'm always surprised by how many of my students are really completely surprised and deeply impressed when we observe things.
