From
my youngest days I have been fascinated with the heavens
and wondered just what was out there. I spent most of
my naval career navigating by these same stars to the
four corners of the world. Therefore, it was not unreasonable
to expect that two of my sons would look to the heavens
for their careers. It wasn't until their projects lead
to pioneering achievements in space did I really become
enamored with the intricacies of putting probes and
robots on places like Jupiter and Mars. One son designed
and fabricated an oxidation experiment for a Russian
Mars lander. Unfortunately, it didn't make it that far
but the device he made was state of the art. My other
son was responsible for putting the Mars Pathfinder
on Mars. Now it is my turn to help bring to the public
the same sense of pride and excitement I feel, in what
not only we are currently doing but where we will be
going in the future.
After
a year of presentations I can highly recommend the Solar
System Ambassador program. I have found a real hunger
for the information NASA/JPL puts out on the video tapes.
It has been a pleasure to share these exciting programs.
