Robert
is a passionate amateur astronomer currently working
in banking and law. His interest in astronomy started
when he was eight years old after witnessing his first
total lunar eclipse and being caught up in the excitement
of the space race. A few years later and age 17 Robert
had the unique experience of being in Moscow in July
1969 when the United States first landed on the moon.
He recalls this experience as one where the achievement
of humanity was recognized rather than that of one country.
About five years ago, his interest in space was rekindled
and he joined the Astronomical Society of Northern New
England volunteering to head up a fundraising effort
to build the new Starfield Observatory in Kennebunk.
Thereafter, Robert became club treasurer and has served
these last two years as president. His mission at the
club has been to build connections with other astronomy
organizations and resources to leverage our star party
experience as much as possible. He feels that the their
efforts have been largely successful as the club has
grown and is now considered a trusted astronomical resource
in southern Maine, doing more structured work with middle
and high school teachers and the newly developed "Star
Party Curriculum." Robert is the father of two
wonderful children (ages 7 and 9 years old) who also
enjoy astronomy. He just completed a 10x16 roll-off
roof backyard observatory, sporting two piers with a
C-14 on an AP 900 Goto mount, and a friend's 5"
AP refractor on an AP 1200 Goto. Robert and his family
are primed for some good observing and serving the community
in the Bath-Brunswick area of coastal Maine.
