 Chuck Rippel is married and a resident of the Hampton Roads, Virginia area for 37 years. He has been self-employed in the electronics service and support business since 1983. Chuck's interest in Science and Astronomy was kindled in the 1960's with the launch of Sputnik and the beginning of the Space Race. He has seen every manned launch from project Mercury, Gemini, Apollo and watched mans first step on the moon. Chuck saw the next generation of manned space exploration made possible by the Shuttle Fleet, the implementation of Hubble and the ISS. More recently, he remembers staying awake, watching the Mars Rover landing live on NASA TV while sharing the experience with like minded friends via live internet chat -- quite a difference from watching Alan Sheppard's trip into space on a black and white TV! He has been a visual Astronomer since 1987 with a special interest in Lunar observing and an amateur radio operator for 33 years holding an Extra Class License. Chuck become interested in Radio Astronomy and joined the Society of Amateur Radio Astronomers in 2004. He enjoys the Society's yearly meeting and presentation of papers held at the campus of the NRAO in Greenbank, West Virginia.
