Dr. ignelzi is currently a staff neurosurgeon at the veterans administration hospital in San Diego, California. As a board certified neurological surgeon, he has an almost 25 years experience in spinal cord injury clinically, and has published over 50 articles dealing with acute central nervous system injury as well as mechanisms of chronic pain so common in the veteran population.
He has served in various academic professorial positions at the University of California San Diego as well as the University of New Mexico and has over 25 years of experience caring for the veteran population. he also served on the Advisory Committee to the Secretary of Veterans Affairs on the health related effects of herbicides (agent orange committee). He has served on the Scientific Review and Evaluation Board of the Rehabilitation Research and Development Service Scientive Merit Review Board for the past 10 years and is currently Chair of the Neurological Dysfunction/Sci: Restoration/Rehabilitation for the last 3 years.
He has been awarded multiple fundings for research by both the Department of Veterans Affairs and the National Institutes of Health as well as several non-governmental agencies. He is a member of many professional organizations including the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Congress of Neurosurgeons; American and International Pain Societies as well as the American Spinal Injury Association.
