Seth
is a research scientist who works on a wide variety
of subjects applicable to biological and medical aspects
of space flight. From buying his first scope at age
eight, student teaching astronomy courses in my hometown
when he was a student, and working as an intern at Langley
Research Center with members of the Viking Mars Lander
team right after high school, he finally figured out
how to bring his love of life sciences in line with
his love of space in graduate school. Since getting
his PhD at Brown University in Neuroscience, Seth has
managed to apply his interests in sensory biology to
the problems of life in space, both terrestrial and
whatever other types might be found out there. He has
worked with the Rhode Island Space Grant on research
projects and community outreach, and is currently working
on projects integrating balance and sleep, funded by
the National Space Biomedical Research Institute (NSBRI).
When the day is over, Seth usually finds a dark spot
and spends evenings planet and stargazing with his telescope,
just relaxing and wondering if someone, somewhere, is
gazing back.
