As
a high school Earth Science teacher, Susan teaches astronomy
but also feels a great passion for space science and
the fascination and mystery of our universe. She enjoys
research topics related to space science, in particular
asteroids and comets. Much of Susan's research has not
only made her aware of the tremendous advances in scientific
exploration, but also reveals how much people have yet
to learn. She is encouraged to instill in her students
that each new discovery leads to new questions, and
with space exploration people will have a better understanding
of the future. Susan has volunteered at a Challenger
Center, and in 2002 arranged for Carolyn Shoemaker (Shoemaker-Levy
Comet) to come to Cornell University to speak to local
teachers as part of Cornell's Comet Nucleus Tour Mission
(Contour Program). She was also invited to be a presenter
at the 2002 International Astronomical Union/Fulbright
Symposium on Astrobiology in Australia.
