Teresa
Moss is director of the Oscar E. Monnig Meteorite Gallery
located on the campus of Texas Christian University in Fort
Worth, Texas. She has held that post since April 2003 shortly
after the Gallery opened in February. One of her responsibilities
in that position is education and public outreach. As such,
she works closely with local public and private school science
educators and school children, as well as college professors
and their students. Besides giving tours of the gallery, Teresa
is involved in developing space science curriculum and hands-on
activities. She has presented several educator workshops on
the topic of meteorites and has planned and implemented two
free community space science events hosted through the Monnig
Meteorite Gallery. Those events were "See & Touch
Mars" and "Jupiter Day."
The
public response to the gallery, the educational programs,
and the community events has been spectacular. Teresa is thrilled
to watch the expressions of visitors as they touch a 4.5 billion
year old rock from space or look through a telescope for the
very first time. More information about the Oscar E. Monnig
Meteorite Gallery or about meteorites in general is available
at http://monnigmuseum.tcu.edu.
Before
coming to the Oscar E. Monnig Meteorite Gallery, Teresa worked
as a middle school science teacher in both public and private
schools in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex area. Currently,
she is completing her thesis for a Master of Science in Environmental
Sciences. Teresa hopes to graduate in May 2005. She also have
earned a Master of Education degree and a Bachelor of Science
degree in psychology with a minor in biology.
Playing
a role in igniting and launching a person's imagination
into the realm of space science and exploration is enormously
rewarding. Teresa looks forward to providing even more opportunities
for the residents of DFW to engage in personal experiences
and discoveries involving space science and space exploration.
