Vanessa J. Hight is the assistant coordinator for NASA’s Summer of Innovation Program in South Dakota. She has taught in both the formal and informal settings ranging from pre-school to high school. She also has facilitated several professional development workshops for business and formal and informal educators. She is dedicated to nurturing the natural curiosity of students and educators. Her goal is to show students and teachers that the possibilities are endless and with hard work they can become a future explorer, engineer, scientist or maybe even an astronaut who will change the world one mission at a time. She has volunteered her time in classrooms firing up the engines in our youth to be inspired to look to NASA as a future goal. She does this by mentoring teachers in the NASA curriculum and teaching the youth directly
Before coming to South Dakota 17 years ago, Vanessa’s work took her around the nation training executives about recent changes to their company’s educational/training program. This included making films that were broadcast around the states. Her first and foremost love would have to be the years she spent in the classroom motivating elementary and middle school students to love learning as much as she does.
