Biographical Information:

Photo of Ambassador Victor Cordero Victor Cordero has shown interest in the science of astronomy since he was seven years old when his father taught him to recognize the constellations, moon phases, the planets, and the shape of the Milky Way. From that early age, he began offering oral reports on the solar system and about the study of the universe in school. His continued interest in sharing the wonders and mysteries of the universe has evolved into countless lectures on a wide variety of topics related to astronomy in general, including procedures to control and prevent light pollution. Aside from giving lectures, he has offered star parties with his 13.1" reflector telescope in communities, school and university groups, boys and girl scouts, and other nonprofit organizations throughout Puerto Rico. Also he has offered workshops at the National Astronomy and Ionosphere Center, also known as the Puerto Rico Observatory in Arecibo, to visitors as well as during annual on-site high school teacher seminars. He has been Professor of Electronics Technology and mathematics at several post-secondary schools.

Victor is assistant editor of a monthly magazine produced by the Puerto Rico Astronomy Society, Inc., for which during more than 10 years, he has written countless astronomy articles, including many outlining procedures for regular people to follow and participate in citizen science projects to better understand the universe. He has written astronomy-related articles explaining how to observe various events such as meteor showers, planets, lunar eclipses, among others, also for several local newspapers.

Victor Roman is currently Vice President of the Puerto Rico Astronomy Society, Inc., a position he has held for four consecutive years in addition to directing the organization's Arecibo Chapter uninterruptedly for more than eight years. At the activities in Arecibo, as well as in star parties in other parts of the island, he distributes educational material and star maps so that people can learn to locate and identify the various constellations and astronomical objects in sight, including their general characteristics. With the same level of motivation, he offers this educational service to communities, schools, universities and organizations to share the wonders of the known universe and their place in the environment and the human progress. Victor holds a Bachelors degree in Electronic Engineering Technology from the Interamerican University in Puerto Rico.
