Ward Yohe was born in Brookville, Pennsylvania and grew up in Big Run, Pennsylvania. He graduated from high school in nearby Punxsutawney in 1989. After high school, he attended US Naval Nuclear Electronics, Power, and Prototype Schools and served as a nuclear reactor operator on the USS Truxtun, home ported in Bremerton, Washington from 1991-1995. Ward now works as a Telecommunications Technician Supervisor for the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle. He enjoys sharing the NASA vision with others; loves hiking, camping, backpacking, biking, snowshoeing, and kayaking with his wife Sharon and other friends; and considers Washington's Puget Sound region to be one of the most fantastic spots on Planet Earth. Ward commutes daily to work via ferry from Bremerton, his home of 20+ years. His primary NASA outreach focus is to groups of any size and age range on the Kitsap and Olympic penisulas.
