William Mitchell's interest in astronomy, space exploration, and photography began in elementary school in Saginaw, Michigan. Those were the early days of the Space Race leading to Apollo landings on the Moon. He used his first telescope to photograph the Moon, Saturn, and Jupiter. Astronomy - and the adventure of space exploration - became his favorite hobby, and photography and film making became his first career. Later in life, William reversed the two, becoming a show presenter and specialist at the NASA-funded Delta College Planetarium and Learning Center in Bay City, Michigan.
