The image is a scan of a photo image taken at 5:15 am EST on Friday, March 7, 1997 by William Burnett in Wilmington, NC. The comet was captured using a 4" Maksutov SCT mated with a Nikon EM camera loaded with Fuji Super 800G film. The 4" Mak was piggyback-mounted on a 10" Meade LX200 reflector equipped with a computer clock drive. A 12mm illuminated recticle eyepiece in the Meade scope was used to guide on the comet. The exposure time was 10 minutes. The Fuji film emulsion brings out the brilliance of the yellow dust tail and is very faithful to the true color of the comet as it was viewed in the scope.
