Location: Cheyenne, Wyoming
Date: March 8, 1997 12:01 UT

This photograph of Comet Hale Bopp was taken at 1201 utc 8 March. 10 minute exposure with 67 Pentax mounted on NGT-18 Newtonian. Tail on comet is now becoming much brigher. Observations with the primary mirror on the Newtonian showed waves or ripples of gas forming on the front leading edge of the comet. Comet has at least a 25 degree tail. Comet was also visible for over an hour last night from my location 10 miles east of Cheyenne, Wyoming.
