I was on my way to work. I work 3rd shift, i stopped to view the comet before going into work and the view was great. I had my camera and shutter cable with me, so i decided to try to get a picture. I didn't have a tripod so I set the camera on the roof of my car. I could not get the elevation I need to center the comet, so I look down and saw a tic-tac box.
By placing this under the lens I could center the comet in the field of view. I used a Pentax K-1000,ASA 400 Fuji film, and a 50mm lens set to f1.8, for a 1:45 sec exposure on the night of 3/21/1996. I live 55 miles northeast of Houston, Texas in the small town of Dayton, Texas so the skies are mostly good for seeing with fairly dark skies.
