Comet Hyakutake - C/1996B2

This is a photograph of Comet C/1996B2 (Hyakutake) taken on March 13 UT from Underwood, near Launceston, Tasmania by Martin George (Launceston Planetarium / Astronomical Society of Tasmania Inc.). The photograph was taken on Tri-x film and exposed for 40 minutes at f/4 with a 200mm lens. The exposure was made between 12:13 UT and 12:53 UT. At the time, Comet C/1996B2 was 60 million kilometres from Earth and 191 million kilometres from the Sun. The bright star near the comet is the star Alpha Librae.
