COMET 1996 B2 AT THE 1.05 METER TELESCOPE
PIC DU MIDI OBSERVATORY (STATION DE PLANETOLOGIE DES PYRENEES, FRANCE)

Comet Hyakutake 1996 B2 observed at the 1.05 m telescope at the Pic du Midi Observatory with a Thomson 7863 CCD of 388 x 284 pixels and a focal reducer F/6. The comet was at a heliocentric distance of 2.0 AU and at a geocentric distance of 1.7 AU. The phase angle is 30 degrees.

(Left). A sum of 9 exposures of 240 sec obtained with a broadband filter with a bandpass from 5400 to 8900 Angstroem between 03 h 59 UT and 04 h 56 UT.

(Right). 8 exposures have been used to remove the stars in the field of view. The elongated isophotes are due to the action of radiation pressure on the dust.

Observers: H. Cabot, F. Colas, S. Jancart, L. Jorda, J. Lecacheux.
