Two images of Comet Hale-Bopp taken in red light (Bessell R filter) through variable clouds with a Photometrics CCD camera (Thomson 512 chip) on the DFM 0.4 m f/12 Cassegrain telescope at Limber Observatory.
The Pink Easter Egg is the inner 3 arcmin of the coma, using a color table that emphasizes the "arc" features. It is the average of four 1.5 s exposures taken at 01:40 UT on Mar. 28.
The Frosty Rainbow image is the inner 5 arcmin of the coma, using a color table that emphasizes the shapes of the isophotes. It is the average of four 2 s exposures taken at 02:10 UT on Mar. 28.
North is up and east is left in both pictures. The color lookup tables are part of the collection provided with the ximtool component of IRAF.
