Detail view of the root of the blue ion tail showing many overlapping shells andintertwined streams. The blue channel has been slightly enhanced in this image, and sharpness and contrast have been digitally enhanced to show the detail structure of the ion tail.
First image taken with a Tele Vue Genesis at f/5 on a Super Polaris mount, unhypered Fujicolor 1600 film, 15-minute exposure taken 11 March 1997 at 1215 UTC from Table Mesa, a desert location 40 miles north of Phoenix, Arizona.
Second image taken with a 200mm telephoto lens at f/4 piggybacked on a Super Polaris mount, unhypered Fujicolor 1600 film, 15-minute exposure taken 11 March 1997 at 1215 UTC.
