Comet Hale-Bopp photographed from Sutherland on May 1 at 19h08. Case Rijsdijk of the SAAO used a Celestron 20 cm Schmidt camera working at f1.5 with Fujichrome film rated at 1600 ASA for 60s. The image clearly shows several blue ion (plasma) tails and a short, fan shaped dust tail.
