Comet Hale-Bopp rides into the Kansas sunset. This is our last image of Comet Hale-Bopp. Is it the Comet of the Century? History will decide.
This image taken by Mark Stafford and Kay Brown in Arma, KS at 9:10 pm CDT, 14 May 1997. The camera used was a Canon EOS 35mm with an 80-200mm lens set at 200mm, Fuji SuperG 800 film, 30 sec. exposure, and mounted on a tripod with no tracking.
The comet's visual magnitude was ~ 1.0-1.5, only a very short tail was visible to the naked eye.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the world wide contributors to the JPL Comet Hale-Bopp Home Page for sharing their work. Especially, we thank you, Ron Baalke, for making this all possible.
