                                       Keck Observatory     

This aerial view of the W. M. Keck Observatory shows the 
twin Keck telescopes, along with most of the other telescopes 
situated atop the summit of Mauna Kea, Hawaii.  This picture was 
taken on February 9, 1998.  Keck I and Keck II are the world's 
largest optical and infrared telescopes, each measuring 10 meters 
(33 feet) in diameter.
 
The W.M. Keck Observatory is owned and operated by the 
California Association for Research in Astronomy, a joint venture 
between the University of California, California Institute of 
Technology (Caltech), Pasadena, CA, and NASA.
