Solving the Wedges Puzzle:

This image of Europa shows a region where large wedge-shaped bands appear to flow across the surface; however, symmetric ridges within the dark bands suggest that it is the crustal plates on either side that have fractured and moved apart. At the same time, the spaces between the plates were filled in with material from below. This process is similar to spreading centers in the ocean basins of Earth. Linear features on opposite sides of the dark wedges can be matched up like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle.
