This Europa view shows a portion of the surface that has been highly disrupted by fractures and ridges. The image's most exciting feature is the symmetry displayed by the dark bands, strikingly reminiscent of the sea floor spreading ridges seen on Earth. These features suggest that some areas of Europa's surface are relatively new, possibly being resurfaced by processes similar to such sea floor spreading.
