Today on Galileo - September 1, 1996
TODAY ON GALILEO
September 1, 1996
The official encounter period for the Ganymede 2 orbit begins today at
9 am PDT. The encounter begins with a three-day long survey for Galileo's
Fields and Particles instruments. The majority of the time today will be
spent with the UVS (Ultraviolet Spectrometer) instrument making measurements
of the Io torus. Also this afternoon, OPNAV images will be taken of Ganymede,
which allows nagivators to fine-tune Galileo's trajectory for Friday's
flyover of the moon at an altitude of only 262 km above the surface!
