TODAY ON GALILEO

September 2, 1996

Measurements of the Io torus by the UVS instrument continue this morning, with Galileo about 690,000,000 km from Earth, and now about 50 Jupiter radius distances away from the planet. In the afternoon, UVS will switch its attention to the equatorial region of Jupiter, taking measurements of the hydrogen Lyman-alpha radiation for 5 hours. Towards the end of the day, the imaging camera will focus on Io, to again search for active volcanoes. Throughout the day, the Plasma Wave Subsystem (PWS) will take high resolution observations of Jupiter's kilometric radiation.
