Pioneer Rocket Nose Cone Assembly
On March 3, 1959, Pioneer Four became the first U.S. spacecraft to escape Earth’s gravity on a flight that came within 37,000 miles of the Moon. The Pioneer Four Mission was the first major Laboratory project conducted for NASA. The spacecraft was tracked to a record distance of 407,000 miles.
