Mariner Activity During Venus Flyby
The technology used in managing spaceflights has rapidly changed. This is easy to see when comparing the teletypes used to print out information during the 1960's, compared to the digital environment of today's operations centers.
This is an work area for the Mariner 2, which encountered Venus 14 December 1962. It was the World's first successful interplanetary spacecraft, Launched on an Atlas-Agena rocket, Mariner 2 passed within some 34,000 kilometers (21,000) miles of Venus, sending back valuable new information about interplanetary space and the Venusian atmosphere.
