Tunable Diode Laser-Based Gas Sensor

NASA has used the tunable diode laser-based gas sensor on aircraft and on balloons to study weather and climate, global warming and emissions from aircraft. Gas sensors aboard the space vehicles will measure water vapor and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and soil of other planets. These measurements will provide information on the geological history of these planets and their potential to support life.
