This Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) is celebrating it's 100 year anniversary of presence in the town of de Bilt at
M A Y 1st 1997 !!!!!!
One hundred years forecasting the weather over the Netherlands from that town. Just before and on the anniversary Hale Bopp gave an extra(terrestrial) contibution to this memorable date.
In 1854 the Institute was founded by the famous meteorologist C.H.D. Buys Ballot. Till May 1st 1897 the met.office was situated in the astronomical observatory "Sonnenborgh" in the town of Utrecht (5 kilometers from de Bilt)
