Limber Observatory Images of Comet Hale-Bopp

The inner 3 arcmin of the coma of Comet Hale-Bopp, taken in red light (Cousins R filter with polarizers) at 02:30 UT on April 6 with a Photometrics CCD camera (Thomson 512 chip) on the 0.4 m telescope at Limber Observatory. The red tint of these images is artificial.

RIGHT: polarization image (brightness proportional to linear polarization), tracing sunlight scattered by arcs of dust and gas ejected from the rotating nucleus
