Comet Hale-Bopp Visible From Northern Hemisphere in Fall of 1997

Comet Hale-Bopp will be "recoverable" later this year for observers at latitudes less than 35 degrees North.

This chart shows Hale-Bopp's approximate Alt/Az position from September through November of 1997 for observers @ 30 deg. North latitude. If current light curve estimates hold up, it may be naked-eye visible through October.

Additionally, on October 24, Comet Hale-Bopp will pass within 3 arcminutes of Gamma Vela (1.8 mag).

I used information from Expert Astronomer, and Adobe Photoshop 4.0 to assemble the image.
