As twilight fades and darkness envelopes very clear Kansas skies, Comet Hale-Bopp gleams. This sequence taken at 7:30 pm, 7:50 pm, 8:10 pm, and 8:30 pm CST; 5 April 1997. Photographs by Mark Stafford and Kay Brown in Arma, KS. Photos taken with a Canon EOS on tripod using Fuji SuperG 800 film, a 200mm lens, 15 second exposure at f4.6 with no tracking. Apparent visual magnitude of Comet Hale-Bopp ~ -0.5. Photos from our first roll of astrophotography attempts.
